A few thoughts on blogging

I have noted a clear trend in visitor stats and comments lately. Every since I started my alphabetic blogging, comments have been scarce. Yesterday I even found out that some people have proudly proclaimed not to read any bloggers who post their way through the alphabet in April, at all! What's the deal with that?

What I post here is not something I will force anybody to read, we all post what's on our mind and hope somebody enjoy it. To have some people state how they avoid reading something is a kind of negativity I just don't understand.

Anyway, I'm finding new interesting stuff in Kalamar, and hopefully somebody comes around who might find something entertaining.

The reason I skipped a letter was because a storm that caused electricity to fail and when it took many hours more than usual to get home from work you don't always feel like blogging. So, one letter a day meant I skipped one letter.

  1. As with most blogs, not replying does not mean not reading. I am sure it is the same with you and the ones you read.

As for people actively not reading the A-Z blogs then hey, their loss.

Frankly I am digging the whole A to Z thing. It is great to see what people come up with and what trends we seem to have and or follow (lots of Gnome posts for G for example).

    Keep up the good work.

  2. I like the A-Z thing since the constraints creates it sparks creativity. I would have joined myself, but knowing that I would be unable to post for two weeks this april made the decision for me.

  3. I'm enjoying the A-Z Challenge as a blogger, but as reader there's so many A-Z challenge blogs going on, I'm finding it hard to read 'em all let alone comment. Lots of good stuff to read.

  4. Yeah, I would say it has more to do with overload than boycotts. With the A to Z thing going on, there are new posts daily from a lot of blogs and who can keep up? Not me. My commenting is down when I'm reading more. If I only read one or two posts on a given day I'm more likely to take the time to comment.

It seems silly to boycott the whole A-Z thing on principle. I'm not doing the A-Z because I already have more posts in mind than time to write them but to each his own.

  5. I'm guessing that the A-Z challenge primarily benefits bloggers rather than readers. It's an exercise in writing (almost) every day, within constraints, and those are both things that can help a writer develop their skills.

Of course, that probably means that there will be some really good posts written during that time, but it's probably also true that, as others have written, there are a LOT of A-Z entries out there.

I seldom get comments on my blog, but I've long since made peace with that! I don't think I could write a blog if I were doing for anyone other than myself.

  6. Maybe some of us are so busy keeping up with A-Z posts that we have little energy left to comment! But I sure have been reading and enjoying everybody's A-Z posts, though.

  7. I'm glad to hear that some of you are enjoying it all! Like you say, I guess it's more oversaturation than anything else. I just felt a bit miffed when I heard that some could consider a boycott! I felt like muttering out aloud at that.

Really good point! I actually hadn't thought of it that way...

  8. Too me the a-z thing seems forced and artificial and bound to lead to a lot of mediocre posts, but I think its just silly to not read something just because you don't like the concept. There's been some very interesting A to Z posts too.

  9. I've been avoiding these A-Z things like the plague. Bad enough I haven't had the time or drive to update my own blog, but.. this A-Z thing just seems kinda dumb to me. If you enjoy doing it keep on keeping on though.

If you the blogger aren't having any fun doing it, what's the point?
