Waking up, slowly

If you have followed this blog for a long time, you know I used to post pretty often. I faded out of it all, loosing interest. Now I have once again started to feel the stirrings of blog posts, so even though the pace might be fairly slow I will start posting again.

Enjoy.

What the eye can see

Right now the eye is half closed, sleeping and waiting the arrival of those days when free time and gaming is plenty. Some of you who have been faithful readers might still be around. Thanks for your patience! I have managed to get a few sessions of gaming in the last months and will have a few posts coming in the near future. Still, I make no promises and posting will probably continue to be sparse for a while more.

Take care, and game on.

Whos's the big kid on the block?

I guess many of you have read the news about Pathfinder outselling D&D? Personally I find the entries lower on the scale more interesting. Is really Dragon Age and Shadowrun that popular! Boggles my mind.

Slowdown of posts

This is a very hectic week for me. The Atlas experiment is doing huge reconstruction jobs, and tomorrow CERN expect to start a lead ion run.

Naturally when there's data taking, we have had things erupt left and right! RAID sets and file systems have crashed at the most inconvenient of times.

Since I have been scrambling to keep track of which pile of disks have been imploding, and what security breach have happened at the same time, I have not had time to think much about the series of posts on Dragons at Dawn I have promised. Maybe things cool down a bit next week while the lead is colliding. Bear with me.

Good web based feed reader, anyone?

I have been using bloglines to keep up with all the good blogs out there. But, now they are closing down. Since that means I have to find an alternative I am out looking at the alternatives.

Anyone have any suggestions?

It has to be web based, handle all the Atom and RSS that the rpg blogs produce, and it has to not be google reader!

Let me know.

Summertime slowdown

I just wanted to post something to let my readers know that while I am a bit silent right now, I do have some posts lined up. It's vacation time and my time online is limited.

While waiting for me to get back to posting, why not take a gander around the other fine blogs at my blogging network? Point your browser at The RPG Bloggers Network and find something new to read!

Have a nice summer vacation, all of you!

Jikes!

I had no idea that rape would be such a big topic. I have never had so many visitors to this blog as yesterday.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope I had something worthwhile to say, and you might want to check back again.

I have myself gotten some food for thought from this.

A Year with The Eye

Roughly one year ago, I had been reading Grognardia and been thinking of blogging. Tunnels & Trolls had become one of my favourite games and reading it made my heard sprout ideas like crazy. Pandora's Box was open, wide open. Then Dave Arneson died.

Knowing that James had started his blog when Gary died I realized that all my plans would amount to nothing unless I overcame inertia, and this was the moment. I wanted to celebrate the memory of those who created our hobby, and maybe give something back.

Now I look back upon a year of over 200 posts. Some of them are less inspired, but some I still feel proud of. Some have generated quite a lot of traffic and even some nice discussions. The fact that so many have been reading my ramblings and cared to comment is very ego boosting. Also, I feel like home in this community of bloggers. Thanks to all you people out there.

Not everything I hoped for this blog have come to pass. I had hoped to produce more original material, and more thematically tight posts. But, I think I've found my niche, and after reaching the point of burn-out I even took some time off to get back in the seat with new energy. Maybe some of the hopes will come true my second year.

Thanks to Ken St. Andre and Dave Arneson and all the other gaming ancestors for showing the way through the dungeons and wilderlands of high adventure!

Old is new again

It seems like the problem I had with the layout of my blog wasn't solved with that new template.

Back to the drawing board.

New Layout

I've gotten an email from Google about the new facility for doing blog layouts. I'm going to try a new theme for a while. Let me know what you think.

Ten days later

I guess it's time I realized the inevitable, this blog is on hiatus. I never seem to find time to blog any more, and when I do I find I no longer have much to say.

For some reason I wont give it all up, but let's say that it's now not just languishing, it is officially and intentionally postponed for a while. I will get back to it, some day.

There are still a lot out there to read, and I do manage to at least skim most of it. Keep it up people, I'll be back later.

I hate being sick

I will probably not post much in a few days, since I'm feeling really down and out right now.

Game on, those of you who can.

A reason for the slowdown

I'm afraid I haven't been very active lately. Not only have I been very slow with postings here, I have also been very slow reading all the good stuff all my friends are blogging about as well. A few comments have been posted, but that's all.

This is all because I have just started a new job, and my head is so crammed with new impressions that I don't have time to blog and I don't feel very creative either. Everything in my head lately is related to storage subsystems, filesystems and supercomputers. Nothing very fitting for this blog. So, until I have gotten a bit more settled in I guess it will be a bit slow around here. One good thing is that since I have plenty of time commuting, I am reading a lot of game books I haven't gotten around to reading until now. At least it's something.

I'll be back.

RPG Bloggers Network melt down, or maybe not?

During the week that went by, I was incapacitated with flu. As it always is, that's when things really start to happen. I'm kind of used to that. Life plays those kind of tricks of irony upon you. This last one was more mysterious, though. What did happen? I haven't the foggiest.

So. The RPG Bloggers Network had some kind of seizure. I had to go back to the webpage and resubscribe to the RSS feed for all the updates, but I saw no message indicating anything different than usual.

At the same time I've seen many of the blogs I read refering to how bad something can blowup when you're not careful, always somehow getting through that they really mean RPGBN. It's very clear to me that some big thing have happened, but when and where? The closest I've gotten to an idea of what has happened is that someone else have started a new network, more social like Facebook. Also, there seem to have been arguments some times about the criteria for joining RPGBN. So what? Someone starts an aggregation service and who will then decide what he want to aggregate? Everyone else? I'm thinking it kind of makes sense for the guy who runs the show to call the shots, right? Maybe it's more to it.

God knows what happend, and I'm amazed that I have seen none of it happening, but the talk afterwards. As long as RPGBN provides feeds that people can subscribe to and find my blog, I'm happy. I've found bunches of stuff that way myself.

Edit: Now I found this link which gives some more information. How the hell are you supposed to find it from the frontpage?!

So what does that mean? Business as usual? I'm confused.

No posts during the weekend

I'll be away for the week end and there will probably be no postings until Monday. Then I'll be back, talking about Call of Cthulhu and railroad tracks in CoC campaigns.

Back in the saddle - The Eye have moved north

So have I then managed to move across the pond. Having been the Crazy Canuck, I'm now going to be the Stupendous Swede. Well, maybe I wont, since around here many of my friends are crazily tall, and many have big beards. Anyway, I will now try to get my regular blogging going again. Many thanks to the faithful who have waited for updates. I guess I'll see in the stats within a few days if there are any. I will thank you in advance and hope you are out there!

Hopefully I will have some things to say about having concluded a big mega campaign for Call of Cthulhu, and maybe I will have some new campaign to start up and write about. Also, I have been thinking of making a regular T&T feature some week day. As usual I will probably look at things from the viewpoint of my favourite old school game, but it would be nice to know if anyone would be at all interested in regular pontifications on T&T. I visited my old game club yesterday, and will maybe write some about my gaming there as well. I do long for some classic ancients miniature games. Those have been sorely missed in Canada. There will be a little bit of everything old and new, like usual. First off will be a post for the RPG Blog Carnival. Hang around, there will be more!

Back from Montreal, and now time for moving!

So now I'm back from Worldcon, and I had a really good time there. Maybe I can turn some of the experiences into blog posts about gaming, we'll see. Sadly, this does not mean I will be back to blogging full time. I will now pack up my home, where I have lived and collected games. All that packing is done because I'll be heading back to live in Europe again. James Raggi and I will try to bring you North American coloured impressions of Northern Europe, with dice. I can't wait until this is all done and I can relax. Maybe I'll post something to blow off some steam, but don't count on it.

Heard of The Hovel?

Another fine trollish blog have started publishing again. It's yet another of the Trollgod's minions. Check it out!

Slowdown in postings

I'm sorry, but I have found myself slowing down a bit in my pace. With a new born in the house you will feel tired and drained, even if the little one is fairly easy going so far. That combined with some ill health have left me feeling very uncreative. Hopefully the creative spirits will return again soon. I'll continue to post, but it might be at a slower speed for a while. Thanks to all who return here to see what I'm posting! Your interest and support is appreciated.

Some pause in blogging: Le Mans!

If you're waiting for today's post, it might be late. Today the greatest motor race of all started, and I'm glued to Radio Le Mans for 24 hours.

This is so much more fun than another racing series I could have mentioned.
