While we wait for me to find something intelligent to say about our current Savage Worlds game, I felt like bringing some worthy cause some attention. Check out this blog about focusing on latent homophobia. Next time you make a character in a game, think about why it should be a straight, white guy. Just think about it.

See you later.

  1. That's a very valid point and one that I discussed with a fellow gamer a month or two back. When it came down to it, we couldn't find one good example of an openly gay character. At least not in any game we'd played.

We also looked over box art and pondered why every hero was white. It's an interesting point and, one that I don't feel really gets the attention it deserves.

    1. I once was in a game with a woman who played a female character who was "undercover" as male. I, a male player, played a female character and another female player played a male character.

It was a hoot, and sometimes a bit confusing. But, you learned to take nothing for granted.

  2. I don't see my character as a white guy as I am not a white guy. I'm not gay either, so I don't play gay characters.

I checked out the blog-it reminded me of Craigslist-M/M, F/F & so on.

I know very little of the blogged linked to. But, it made me think.

    2. Maybe I should add that I should thank you for showing me how I even in my phrasing above started from the perspective of the straight white dude. Live and learn. Thanks man (btw I say that to lasses too :).

  3. How do you know your characters aren't gay? Unless they're having sex in the game, I suppose their orientation is as much a mystery as that of anyone who walks into my RL store. Like, maybe my Monopoly thimble is gay.

  4. Political correctness is the most annoying fad. : /

Maybe, as an outsider I just don't get it but it seems to me like the unnecessary politicization of absolutely everything. And if you appose it at all it makes you seem like a fascist.

    1. I just wrote "Just think about it". Nothing more. If you want your game without sexual politics, more power to you. Game on.

  5. A conversation I once had with a Lesbian:

"You are sexually attracted to women, right?" I said.

"Yes" she answered a bit defensively.

"So am I," I replied, "so how can I think of criticizing you for having the exact same feelings that I have?"

We got on quite well after that.
